Several recent events provide continued, reassuring evidence that Stanford and its students care about and study the world’s difficulties and seek out simprovements, solutions and opportunities thoughtfully, without getting too bogged down in overly emotive arguments.

Roundtable at Stanford

The University once again hosted a dialogue between academics, opinion makers, and political and economic leaders. It was clear by the end that Stanford intends to take the lead in the development of green and clean technology, just as it did with computing and information technology.

Nobel Peace Prize

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and former Vice President Al Gore shared this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. The University quickly noted that six of the panel’s scientists hail from Stanford. The prize has sparked political debates between those who think the choice of Gore was motivated by political correctness and those who believe he merited the prize for calling attention to a global threat.

Midterms

It’s that time again, when we realize and remember how quickly the quarter moves. Sadly, the reminder always takes the form of a painful smack on the head from exams.

Campus Film Festival

Student work in the arts continues to display tremendous creativity, and a good time was had by all.

Campus Discussion and Dialogue

Recent events on campus, despite one or two lapses into protests, continue to attest to students’ thoughtfulness about issues, problems, and situations facing the world.
